Now is Your Chance to Share Your Memories of Lotta Hitschmanova

Do you have a Lotta-related memory, photo or item to share? Now is your chance.

an image of someone holding a black and white photograph. the hand holding the photo is barely in the frame but the thumbnail is showing and is painted. The photo has a man and a woman speaking. the woman is much shorter and is lookign up at the man. in the background, children look on as the man and woman speak.

We may have mentioned once or twice that we're pretty proud of our founder, Lotta Hitschmanova's legacy. So we're extra excited to let you know about a special project we're working on here at 56 Sparks St.

Right now at USC Canada, we're organizing decades worth of Lotta archives with a special project in mind. And there's a lot to go through: from albums of black and white photos taken in all corners of the globe and stacks of handwritten notes from dedicated supporters, to patches from Lotta's famous uniform and tokens of thanks from people whose lives she helped to change. To help with this undertaking, Gaelan Coffin, a library and information technician student, is spending a few weeks in our Ottawa office.

A man sits at a desk. There's a photo album in from of him full of black and white images and he's holding one of the pages out of it in his hand and showing it to the camera.

Gaelan is already hard at work on the office archives!

But we know that many of you have your own treasures at home too! So you're more than welcome to contribute.

If you have a Lotta-related memory, photo or item you want to put forward for this special project, please email Gaelan at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We’re called USC Canada because we started out way back in 1945 as the Unitarian Service Committee, founded by the energetic Dr. Lotta Hitschmanova. We’re still planting the seeds that Lotta sowed. Find out more about our founder, Dr. Lotta Hitschmanova.
